BEHIND BRAVA:
How to create a new collection from scratch

From the first ideas considered to the final garment ready to grace your closet, we like to implement lots of time and effort in the creation of our collections.

In this Blog post you’ll discover the early stages of our SS20 collection and will get to meet our Product Design department, the wonder-team responsible of the first and most creative steps of our garments.

1. BRAINSTORMING

A year before the official launch, our Product Design team – Clara, Joan, Jordi and Nelly – gather around to start thinking about the new collection. They define the main concept, inspired by things they love. In the next step they decide about the number of different capsules, garments, etc.

During these first meetings everything is open and possible and everyone’s references, tastes and baggages get into play to start configuring the next chapter at Brava.

2. GRAPHIC RESEARCH

Once the capsules and themes are settled, it’s time to think about the graphic concept that will drive our collection. Brava is driven by visual culture with special attention to design, so this step defines the whole process. Here is where our icons, patterns and final designs start taking form.

An essential part of this process is about defining the color palette that the whole collection is going to inhabit. We always seek a balance between fresh new colors and colors that have traditionally defined Brava.

3. FABRIC RESEARCH & SELECTION

Every piece we design is unique and requires specific attention and care.

Besides making sure that our garments are made of the accurate fabric regarding the desired result, we take special attention to using sustainable and cruelty-free obtained materials only.

4. SHAPES, PATTERNS & FITS

Once our fabrics are chosen, it’s time to think about our apparel in terms of shape, pattern and fit. Our graphic designers, Jordi and Nelly, are responsible of taking the results of the graphic and color research and transform them in new and unique patterns.

Meanwhile, Joan, our Fashion designer, focuses on the shape and fit design.

5. SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT

With the final garment almost in sight, it’s time to ensure that the fabric with which the first samples will be made is optimal. Our team evaluates the first cuts sent by the ateliers with special attention to color and printing details - and gives the final okay.

6. GARMENT SAMPLING & FITTING

Once samples are approved and the final garments take form, we head to the last step in our process. When our first garments arrive to the office, it’s time to start the fitting.

The whole team collaborates in this part, either modelling or chatting, while Joan observes and makes ultimate changes.
